I Heart NY and DIYCity

This week on Smart City, we're kicking off 2009 with a slice of history and a look into the future of city planning. First we'll speak with John Geraci. John has spent the last six years making life in cities better through web technologies. He'll talk to us about his latest project, DIYCity, a site dedicated to finding ways that technology can make cities work efficiently, effectively and sustainably.

Plus, a look back on the past. The 70s and 80s were turbulent times for New York City, but an iconic image, the "I Heart NY" symbol, went from a slogan to a way of life . We'll speak with author and sociologist Miriam Greenberg about her book "Branding New York." on this week's show.
